South of Fraser Transit Lock-In: All 8 SkyTrain Stations Now Under Construction with Trackwork Beginning

Construction has shifted into high gear on the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension, with all eight stations now under active construction and trackwork beginning in late April 2026. The British Columbia government confirmed that foundation work is complete at six of the eight stations, with vertical construction now visible at Fleetwood and Green Timbers stations. The 16-kilometre elevated guideway extension from King George Station to Langley City Centre has passed the 30 percent completion mark, with five kilometres of segments already installed using four operational launching gantries. Rail installation marks a critical transition from civil infrastructure to systems work, keeping the project on schedule for a late 2029 opening that will connect Langley City Centre to downtown Vancouver in just over an hour.

This $5.7-billion project represents the largest federal transit investment in British Columbia history, with Ottawa contributing $1.3 billion and Victoria $4.4 billion. Beyond the rails, the extension includes 14 kilometres of new multi-use pathways linking to regional active transportation networks. Once operational, the Expo Line extension will cut commute times between Langley City Centre and King George Station from over 45 minutes by bus to just 22 minutes by train. Projections indicate 56,000 daily weekday riders in the opening year, growing to 80,000 by 2050. The line is designed to unlock transit-oriented communities around all eight stations, fundamentally reshaping how residents south of the Fraser River access employment, healthcare, and education across Metro Vancouver.
