The Crown corporation behind Canada's proposed high-speed rail project, Alto, has announced that the first phase of the line from Montreal to Ottawa could cross approximately 1,700 properties. This includes an estimated 500 agricultural lands, which has raised concerns among local farmers.

Martin Imbleau, the president and CEO of Alto, indicated that the project would require partial acquisition of lands within a 60-metre right-of-way. Public consultations concluded in late April, and Alto plans to unveil a more precise corridor by autumn 2026.
