Licensed Vancouver Agent Accused of Converting Long-Term Rentals to Illegal Airbnbs: What Owners Missed

Matthew Kuras, a former licensed real estate agent in British Columbia, is facing escalating regulatory scrutiny after the B.C. Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) issued multiple consumer alerts alleging he operated an unauthorized short-term rental scheme. The regulator revealed Wednesday that Kuras, who lost his license last month after being fired by TRG – The Residential Group Realty, may now be conducting business under the new unlicensed name "Vancouver Property Management Solutions – Rockport Management." This follows previous allegations that Kuras tenanted at least five Vancouver properties under false pretences, listing them on Airbnb without owner consent. The BCFSA has ordered him to pay $27,000 in administrative penalties and warned that he remains unauthorized to provide real estate services in British Columbia, with investigations ongoing but complicated by his refusal to produce tax documents.
