Share

VIA Rail has launched a fresh round of discounts that could make a cross-Canada train journey far more affordable this spring and summer. The offers come in two streams: a Tuesday-deal promotion available to all travellers, and the newly announced Canada Strong Pass that provides steep youth discounts on train travel, museums, and national parks.
For the Tuesday deals (posted May 5), VIA Rail is offering 15% off economy class on select trains in the Québec City–Windsor corridor for travel between May 19 and June 1. travellers can also save 10% on economy tickets for travel aboard The Canadian, The Ocean, and regional trains between May 19 and June 22. The Canadian — VIA Rail’s flagship route from Vancouver’s Pacific Central Station to Toronto’s Union Station — was recently ranked among the Top 10 train trips in the world.

Editor's Comment
These VIA Rail promos are a timely reminder that Vancouver remains a true gateway city—especially with The Canadian departing from Pacific Central—making cross-country travel more accessible for families and young adults. With Metro Vancouver fuel costs rising, discounted rail becomes a practical alternative to driving or flying for summer trips, which can influence how locals plan extended vacations and even short-term housing needs (sublets, pet-friendly rentals, storage) during peak travel months. The key constraint is capacity: The Canadian runs limited weekly departures, so the real value of these discounts will go to travellers who can book early and stay flexible on dates.
