Surrey’s Free Waste Drop-Off Program Returns for Spring and Summer 2026
Share

The City of Surrey has brought back its Free Waste Drop-Off program, offering residents a simple, no-cost way to dispose of unwanted household items at the Central Surrey and North Surrey recycling and waste centres through September 30, 2026.
Each household is entitled to one free visit, with proof of Surrey residency required at the gate. Residents can drop off up to 100 kilograms of junk, including large items — up to four mattresses, for example. Anything over the 100 kg threshold incurs regular disposal fees for the excess weight only.
Question
Why is the city investing in a free waste disposal programme, and what problem does it aim to solve?

Surrey’s renewed free drop-off is a practical, low-friction way to curb illegal dumping—an issue that can quickly drag down a block’s curb appeal and create real headaches for strata councils, landlords, and homeowners. For sellers, this is a timely reminder that a clean exterior, lane, and side yard still matter: buyers notice dumped items, overflowing bins, and “temporary” storage, and they often read it as deferred maintenance. With one free household visit (up to 100 kg) plus the separate large-item pickup option, there’s little reason to leave mattresses or bulky junk lingering before listing or move-out—just plan ahead, bring proof of residency, and sort materials to avoid delays or surprise fees.
