Spike in Vancouver Whale Sightings a Sign of the 'New Normal'
Share

In recent weeks, many Vancouver residents have reported numerous whale sightings, including transient orca pods under the Lions Gate Bridge and a humpback whale in Deep Cove. This resurgence is seen as a sign of recovery after significant declines in whale populations throughout the 20th century.

Andrew Trites, a marine mammal expert at UBC, noted that this time of year marks the migration of humpback and grey whales from southern waters to the north for summer feeding. He emphasized that while this resurgence is encouraging, it also represents a 'new normal' for the region's marine ecosystem.

As a seasoned real estate agent in Greater Vancouver, I see the dual nature of these whale sightings. While they can enhance the allure of coastal properties, we must remain vigilant about the environmental challenges that could affect long-term market stability.
