With roughly six weeks until the October 1, 2026 implementation date, the B.C. legislature's Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services has formally recommended that the provincial government repeal its planned Provincial Sales Tax expansion to professional services. The committee, which heard nearly 400 presentations and received over 1,100 written submissions during its 2027 budget consultations, included the repeal call among 81 recommendations in its final report. The tax expansion was originally introduced in the 2026 budget by the BC NDP government and would apply seven per cent PST to accounting services, security and private investigation services, various non-residential real estate services, and partially to architectural, engineering, and geoscience services at a 30 per cent taxable rate.
