Downtown Hudson’s Bay Redevelopment Poses Opportunities, Challenges

The former Hudson’s Bay Co. flagship store at 674 Granville St. is in the process of being acquired by Vancouver-based developer Onni Group. This acquisition follows the building's receivership after the closure of Canada’s oldest retailer, raising significant interest in the future of this central location.

Onni Development Capital Corp. has agreed to purchase the historic property, although specific redevelopment plans have not been disclosed. Mark Thompson, a partner with MCMP Architects, noted that the site could potentially host a mixed-use project that includes hotel, office, commercial, residential, or retail components, which could inject new energy into the downtown area.
